Confusion about punishment and harras

Question

Hello trainers,
Could you please help me by telling the meaning of punishment ? I searched a lot but in vain.

There are two options for that.

1- to make suffer
2- to trouble
I don't know which one is correct. I think first one is correct . please help me.
Next problem is ; Is this sentence correct in speaking and writing ?

The bus was so overcrowded that I didn't get in.

Punishment - what happens if you do something wrong.

The mother punished her child. He threw his food at her.
His punishment was to stay in his room for an hour.

In some countries, the punishment for murder is death.

That is fine. Most native speakers would say: get on, not get in.

Thanks for giving me the answer of second question. but i have only two options for the word punishment that is; 1- to make suffer and 2- to trouble So which one is correct to you ma'am.

Why do you have only these two options? Neither one is really correct, and neither is the correct part of speech. ("Punishment" is a noun, and your two options are both verbs.) Where did you get these two options?

Hello sir,

Actually i was solving the exercises in which these options are given to describe the word punishment . for i love to solve exercises so that i can get command over English. and for my own betterment.

I think first option would be correct but i have a doubt on it.so i sought help from you.

IF I understand your question, your teacher wants you to choose a definition for the word "punishment." Does it mean

"to make someone suffer" or "to trouble someone"?

Have you heard the term "capital punishment"? Some countries still have capital punishment. That means that if Mr. X

kills Mr. Y, then the government will kill Mr. X. I think that we can say that the government makes Mr. X suffer for what

he did to Mr. Y.

In the title of this thread, you have used the word "harassment." I think that means something like to trouble someone.

To say bad things to him or her, for example.

It is correct, but I think that in general we would say instead, "The bus was so overcrowded that I couldn't get in."

I would chose #1 - to make suffer.
Someone who is punished is made to suffer.

you are right .At first in the title i have used harassment word that is one of the words in the exercises but later i got its answer. i think what you said is right and i should go for it.
