Confusion about punishment and harras

Hello trainers,
Could you please help me by telling the meaning of punishment ? I searched a lot but in vain.

There are two options for that.

1- to make suffer
2- to trouble
I don't know which one is correct. I think first one is correct . please help me.
Next problem is ; Is this sentence correct in speaking and writing ?

The bus was so overcrowded that I didn't get in.

Hello sir,

Actually i was solving the exercises in which these options are given to describe the word punishment . for i love to solve exercises so that i can get command over English. and for my own betterment.

I think first option would be correct but i have a doubt on it.so i sought help from you.

IF I understand your question, your teacher wants you to choose a definition for the word "punishment."  Does it mean

"to make someone suffer" or "to trouble someone"?

Have you heard the term "capital punishment"? Some countries still have capital punishment.  That means that if Mr. X

kills Mr. Y, then the government will kill Mr.  X.  I think

It is correct, but I think that in general we would say instead, "The bus was so overcrowded that I couldn't get in."

I would chose #1 - to make suffer.
Someone who is punished is made to suffer.
