Confusion

We couldn't find anything that would describe a situation like mine.

Is ‘would’ in the sentence past of will?

What if I just say, ‘We couldn't find anything that described a situation like mine.’, what’s the difference in meaning between the first sentence and this sentence? Thank you in advance.
