Confusion.

I picked up the money that was on the ground. If I didn’t pick it up, he would.

I picked up the money that was on the ground. If I hadn’t picked it up, he would have.


Do they mean the same and if not, what’s the difference between them? Thank you.

Agree. Only 2 is correct.


It's an issue.with 2nd conditional and negation.

The modal "would" is used in many ways! The problem is that in the first example there is hypothetical prediction (but not a hypothetical conditional).
