Confusion!

Let's there is someone at the door and he is knocking on the door. and I know for the fact that it's Jimmy.

Alex: Who is knocking on the door?

Me: That would be Jimmy.

Am I still able to use would with the fact that I know it's Jim who is knocking on the door? If yes, What does would mean here?

Top answer

Yes. It means that I don't know for absolute certainty, but I am expecting Jimmy to arrive right at this moment.
