Confusing meaning

If you sell your house before the end of this month, your taxes will be reduced by almost 30 percent ------- the sale of your home.
(A) regarding
(B) despite
(C) supposing
(D) regardless of

When translating the sentence into my language, I find that either A or D makes sense to me. Nonetheless, I think choice D is more correct. Please help me make it clear. Thanks in advance.

From a purely English-language point of view I would choose (B). However, I don't understand what the sentence is talking about. I don't understand what taxes it is referring to, or why selling your home might not be expected to reduce them.
