Confusing issue on present perfect tense.

Hello everybody, I have a really confusing issue on present perfect tense usage. When I wrote the weekly report for my boss, he sent me a letter pointing out that I had made a mistake, which is improper use of present perfect tense. That mistake is as follows:

"This week, I have done research on the relationship between acoustic wave of piezoelectric material (e.g., quartz) and its equivalent circuit ..."

The bold words are considered wrong by my boss. I thought present perfect tense can be used to convey recent news/information to readers. Could someone please explain why   that is a mistake ?

P/S: my boss and me are not native English speakers.

If you wrote the report at the end of the week, then 'I did research ...' is also acceptable. It's simply a matter of personal preference.

Hi fivejedjon,
I used present perfect tense since the week had not finished (I write my weekly report every Friday).
