Confusing, but help me!!

(1) new expressions such as A, B, andC.
(2) new expressions such as A, B, or C.
(3) new expressions such as A.

(4) a new expression such as A.
(5) a new expression such as A, B, and C.
(6) a new expression such as A, B, or C.

My understanding is correct? If you put expressions(=the plural) before such as, you are supposed to have more than one example, while if you
put an expression(=the singular), you are supposed to have only one example? Which patterns are acceptable?
