Confused with "be"

I'm confused here:

1. "It is finished."
2. "It is disintegrated."

Number 2 sounds strange. Should be "It has disintegrated" instead? but I can't pin down what the problem is.
With number 1, does "finished" count as an adjective, or verb?

Thanks for the help in advance.
