confused about punctuation

He acknowledged me as a girl - plain and ordinary.

I thought, if he could easily reap success,
something he was very confident about
I'm definitely not any less.

This is an extract from a poem i've written.
Is the punctuation right? Do i have to replace the dashes with something else.

Dashes are used for compound words and continued words.

Compounds: Anglo-Saxon, first-class, low-budget, mother-in-law

When a word is too long to fit on a line, it can be continued by splitting the syllables: "She is seeking enlight-

enment."
