Confused

Parking is indeed a bitch and we are relieved of 5 dollars.We will never find the car again . We eat the sandwiches at the side of the parking lot and stare at the crowd . Most are "tailgating", that is , eating and drinking beer using the car as their table.
What is the meaning of "relieved of "here ? Why we will never find the car again? what is the meaning of "tailgating "here?

Parking is really troublesome and it costs me 5 dollars. There are so many cars in the parking lot that I almost cound not find where my car is . I enjoy watching people eating their food on the roo of their cars.
