Confused

Hi,

I'm not sure if i understand the difference between these two sentences:

a) I’ve felt as if I’ve destroyed the last remaining opportunity for immortality.

b) I felt as if I’ve destroyed the last remaining opportunity for immortality.

Are both correct, and what different meaning do they portray? Thanks!
