Conflict scheduling?

One of my customer wanted to have a call with me today. But unfortunately i was busy. So i left following message "I'm afraid to say that we had a schedule conflict for today." Is it ok. If not pls help me to frame a right sentence.

Thanks for your reply. However there is a confusion 'I was unable to take your call today' which means he called me but i didn't pick up his call. In real situation there was no call. He sent me a mail requesting for a meeting

I'm sorry that I could not schedule a conference call with you today. My schedule was very tight and did not allow enough time for an unhurried discussion. When would be a convenient time for you?
