'confirmation of receipt'

Does it make sense to say 'this letter is confirmation of receipt of my application.'?

And what about 'this letter is confirming the receipt of my application.'?

Thank you

These words suggest to me that you are writing a letter that confirms someone else has received your application. Shouldn't the other person write such a letter to you?

Hi Clive,

Sorry to have confused you. I should have been clearer. These words say that the person speaking has received a letter confirming the company has received his/her application.

These words may be spoken when describing letter to someone else - it's a letter confirming xyz received my application.

Now that I have hopefully cleared this up, is my wording correct?

Thank you. Is it grammatical, though perhaps awkward, to replace receipt with receiving?

This letter is confirmation of receiving your application.

I wouldn't say it is wrong, but it is certainly awkward.
