Mister Micawber,

Thank you so much for your fast reply. Are you sure it definitely needs "a"? The doctors on the organizing committee think "a" is not important.

"a better future in oncology" - to me this means more funding for the institutions, higher salaries for the researchers, and more students choosing this for their profession.

Are they native English speakers?

Yes and they are furthermore not native speakers, but they are proud of their English and stubborn.

What I wanted to express was, even if the grammar is wrong, is it a really big, glaring error? Or could it be considered OK without "a"?

"Head and Neck" is there because the conference is related to otorhinolaryngology.

Ah! Then your phrase is wrong. Otorhinolaryngology is called Ear, Nose and Throat medicine.

Together for a Better Future in Ear, Nose and Throat Oncology

'A' remains necessary; its omission remains a noticeable error, leaving you with a phrase that sounds non-native.

Actually Head and Neck is not in question. The conference is not just about ORL but also "Head and Neck Surgery." This was in response to alpha suggesting just "oncology" which includes all forms of cancer on any part of the body. This conference only deals with cancer of the head and neck.

I didn't mean for you to leave out "Head and Neck". "Towards a Better Future in Head and Neck Oncology" would mean the same as my previous comment, but limited to the cancers of the head and neck.
