Conditionals ?

It is becoming common to hear phrases like ' At the age of 20 I would have been already at work as a .........'
Is this just another creepy crawly passing by or has it some basis ?

We use 'would (have)' for things other than conditionals. As a child, I would often go off into the wood on my own for hours. - Custom/habit.
