conditionals

The following sentences are to be compared but to be honest I see no differences within the pairs. Could anybody help me?

1. a) I'll go with him if he asks me to.
b) I'll go with him if he should ask me to.
2. a) If he should call, tell him to wait.
b) Should he call, tell him to wait.
3. a) If I saw him, I'd speak to him.
b) If I were to see him, I'd speak to him.
4. a) If I had known you were busy, I wouldn't have bothered you.
b) Had I known you were busy, I wouldn't have bothered you.
5. a) If there were a chance you might listen, I'd try to make you understand.
b) If there was a chance you might listen, I'd try to make you understand.
6. a) If you wrote to him on my behalf, I'd be greatly obliged to you.
b) If you would write to him on my behalf, I'd be greatly obliged to you.
7. a) If you had gone to England, you would have learnt the language properly.
b) If you had gone to England, you would now speak the language properly.
8. a) You'll have to pay more if you buy it on hire-purchase.
b) You always pay more if you buy something on hire-purchase.
