could anyone please tell me when do we use the 1st conditional and wen the 2nd one?i get really confused between the two:(.. thanks in advance

i mean what is the difference between these two sentences:(

if i got selected in IIT, i would be very happy.
if i get selected in IIT,i will be very happy.

Hi,
Basically for conditional, we use it for real and unreal situation/condition.
Sentence #1 means present or future imagination (unreal). Sentence #2 means present or future possibility (real)

If I passed the board exam, I would buy a new car. (future imagination)
If I pass the board exam, I will buy a new car. (future possibility)

My explanation is not so technical

I'm not a native speaker so, I'll explain it in a very simple way.

If the situation was unreal or you just imagining it, let's always follow this syntax. IF + S + Vpast, S + would + Vbase
But if the situation is real and you are sure that it will happen in the future or there is a future possiblity then use this syntax. IF + S + V, S + WILL + Vbase
