Conditional sentences in reported speech

Can anyone tell me which is correct -

I said I would come if she was sick. OR I said I would come if she were sick. (The outcome, ie whether the person concerned was sick or not, is known.)

If people knew that "she" was sick when you uttered the sentence, it goes: I said I would come if she was sick. CB
