Conditional sentence

Hello,

I don't know whether I should use the second or the third conditional?

The university is not famous for its team because it loses each game, but if the university had a strong sports team, more students would attract and apply to the university.

Thank you for your reply.

The second conditional, as you have it, is appropriate with present time (The university is not ... it loses ....).

The third conditional would be appropriate with past time (The university was not ... it used to lose every game ...).

As shown. The auxiliary verb would is still in effect at the point where you say apply, so this is a shorter form of

would be attracted (to) and would apply to the university.

All the rest is fine.
