Conditional

Were it not for the quick thinking of the pilot, the plane would have crashed.

is the use of ''were'' correct.shouldn't it be ''had''??
what's the difference between the meanings of these two sentences:
*
** If I were a king,I would be generous
&
** Had i been king, I would have been generous?

I find these very confusing..

Top answer

htm ** If I were a king,I would be generous. - I am not a king. But I imagine that since kings are rich, I could choose to be generous with all that money.

  • htm ** If I were a king,I would be generous.
  • - I am not a king.
  • But I imagine that since kings are rich, I could choose to be generous with all that money.
