Hi

below sentence is third conditional??,please eplain about it:

'Who would have predicted that our pedestrain colleage would one day win the Noble Prize for medicine??'

In the present, you predict that something will happen.

In the past, you predicted that something would happen.

so why it is NOT 'who would predicted.....'?? and it is 'who would+have+predicted...'????

You can't use 'would predicted'. would is a modal verb and only a base form can be used after a modal verb.

Who would predict is for present time.

Who would have predicted is for past time.

As Jim explained, there is no conditional sentences involved.

Keep in mind, would is a modal verb and is followed by simple form of the verb, so you cannot find would predicted in any contexts.

The past form of probabilities is formed as follwos.

must+ have+ PP

Should+ have+PP

could+have+PP

would+have+pp
