Concentration

What does "concentration" mean?

"The tragic event is no myth or legend, though some skeptics pay no heed to the mountains of evidence--the dwindling number of survivors who still have their concentration camp number tattooed on their arms, the pictures from the daily papers of that time, the mounds of shoes, hair, gold teeth discovered by the Allied soldiers who liberated the concentration camp inmates, and,"

"Concentration camp" is what we call the prison camps the ***** set up to hold the Jews and others. The Germans themselves named them that ( Konzentrationslager ), so the question of what is meant by "concentration" is one for the Germans. But I have to guess that it simply means what it would in English, a place where certain types of people were gathered together in one spot, concentrated.
