Concede as in surrender

Hello,

I've come to understand that concede can mean to admit or accept a position of your opponent reluctantly as in:

"I concede your point."

However, since concede can also mean to yield or surrender. Is it not possible to use concede in a fashion to surrender a position you previously accepted to be true? So for example...

"I concede my position on global warming."

This is the more common way of expressing concession:

"I concede that my position on global warming was wrong."
