Computers in the kitchen

I thought I was odd, but not at all it seems. From the Times, I read:

'Long recognized as a primary gathering place in the home, the kitchen these days is seldom a room unto itself. More and more people prefer a cooking area that opens to a great room or a living room. This is helping turn kitchens into a magnet for PC's.'
I'm happier with my computers in my kitchen than I was with them in a room made into an office, as in my last place. The tea kettle is right there, it is the room most easily and quickly adjusted to ideal temperature and humidity on cold mornings, the fridge is there, and the sink is there. What more does a man need?

I went shopping for a fridge earlier this year, and was quite taken with the $10,000 Samsung that had a built-in computer plus internet access.

I don't have a server in my kitchen. She makes me mash my own tea.

Aha. A Midlands regional word, which I have never heard in the North. You take me back to my Granny's kitchen.

What, 'mash'? What other verb can possibly be used in connection with making a pot of tea correctly? I bet you're not too enthusiastic about infusing.

I have my neighbour and she can be as cuddly but, like a cat, only when it suits her.
