Compromise to family intimation?

Hi,

I'm reading an essay about old-man clubs and there is one passage that I just don't understand well: "Old-man clubs are not a paradise definitely, which is a compromise to family intimation"

I do understand and have check the definition of "compromise" and "intimation" on Oxford Dictionary (http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/intimation?q=intimation and http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/compromise_1?q=compromise). But when they are together like in the sentence, i'm just not sure I get a clear idea of the author.

Could you please explain or paraphrase it?

Thank you very much

In this case, ‘intimation’ means ‘suggestion’ or ‘recommendation’ (the family suggests or recommends clubs for the elderly). Also, ‘compromise’ means ‘less than perfect’ but ‘better than nothing’ (a suggestion that has some benefits but a few disadvantages as well). ‘Paradise’ would be a perfect solution.

  • An ‘old-man club’ is less than that but better than no solution at all.
