Comprehension issue

"But hell! Me and Whisper are busier trying to put the chive in each other than bucking the combine. That a sour racket. While we're tangling , them bums will eat us up."

Could someone shed some light on the meaning of the highlighted ones.

I would guess chive is chiv ( shiv ), slang for a knife. Bucking the combine I would guess means going against some group or organization- more context would help. Sour racket I would guess means a bad business.
