compound negatives

How would you interpret the following statement?

" If you're unable to post without showing disrespect to others, take it elsewhere."

When I initially came across this statement it seemed that the writer might better have used the word 'respect' -- rather than 'disrespect'.

After studying the statement carefully however, I'm now feeling that either way actually works to convey the idea intended without any apparent grammatical issues.

Curious what other folks' perspective might be on this.

Hey,

I think that "respect" would work in this case. "disrespect" would form a double negation and should therefore be avoided.

NB:. I'm not a native-speaker of English.

GPY,

Try this: add in a supporting, but nonessential adjective; like the word 'some'. Then see how your mind views it.

for example: " If you're unable to post without showing some disrespect to others, take it elsewhere."
" If you're unable to post without showing some

Apparently, all his posts were disrespectful in some way.

He was not able to make a respectful post (without any disrespect.)

So, they are telling him to go away.

The word 'disrespect' is not an error.

The way I interpret it, the speaker is implying that the other person is "unable to post without showing disrespect to others". In other words, every time they post they show disrespect to others – they are unable to do otherwise.

Sorry if I'm being slow, but could anyone explain in simple languag
