Complex sentences question.

I'm having trouble with complex sentences.

Example: Bob wanted to go to the store, BUT he was tired, SO he went to sleep.

Two coordinating conjuctions in two dependant clauses, how does this work?

Three independent clauses actually: Bob wanted to go to the store , BUT he was tired , SO he went to sleep. It works very well, so what is it you don't understand? BillJ
