competitive sport

I always hear the term competitive sport but competitive seems to be redundant. Could you give me an example of UNcompetitive sport?
Thanks.

Things that involve building your own skill level. Weight training; swimming to improve your own strenght and endurance, not to win races; tai chi (I think I spelled that wrong); etc. , to participate, it's a non-competitive sport.

When you are involved in something athletic, but you don't have to have meets, games, matches, etc., to participate, it's a non-competitive sport.

I see. So even popular sports like soccer, football and basketball can be non competitive sports. It just depends on whether the person is a profesional athlete or not, right?
Thanks, GG.

No no! Not at all. All of those are team sports that involve games, matches, etc. They are all competitve.

Though I agree that taichi is not competitive, I believe swimming and weigh lifting are competitive.
I can't seem to think of another example other than taichi as you suggested.

There are many people who swim simply for excercise, with no intention of ever competing.

Weight lifting is FAR more common to do for self-improvement than for competition.
