Comparison of Present(Past) Perfect Continuous and Present(Past) Perfect Simplethe

Can we use The Present Perfect Simple instead of Present Perfect Continuous with an action which began in the past and is still continuing or has only just finished(especially with for and since)? If we can , which action verbs are used in this way? For example:

1. “Sorry we are late.”

“That’s OK. I __________ (not/wait) long.”

I know, the answer is Present Perfect Continuous - haven't been waiting. What about the Present Perfect - haven't waited?

2. "The children __________ Emotion: sleep for 10 hours when mother woke them up."

In this case I think the answer is Past Perfect Continuous-had been sleeping. What about the Past Perfect-had slept?"

Thank you in advance
