comparison-hard-harder

I try to improve my english listening after spending too much time with french language. I have seen this conversation between Anna and Grey in the film "Fifty shades of Grey". Anna arks the question about how did Grey do for being successful with a young age. The answer of Grey is
"I've always found that the harder I work, the more luck, I seem to have".
I don't understand what it means "the harder"?
Does it mean "harder=work harder than others people" ? if this is the comparison why I did't see the word "than" as harder...than.

Many thanks
