Comparison

Hi guys,

I'm quite confused with this sentence:

Marine reptiles are among the few creatures that are known to have a possible life span greater than "man".

Is the word "man" is used correctly? Or should it be "that of man"?

Please help me with this. Thanks a lot.

You're right -- it would be better to say "greater than that of man" or simply "greater than man's."
