Comparison

1. "Selected to be the captain by the coach, he led the team to multiple victory"

2. "Having been selected to be the captain by the coach, he led the team to multiple victory"

Does the -ing been part simply add more emphasis to the second phrase without altering its meaning?

Thank you

For me, the main difference is that (2) more strongly suggests a sequence of events in time: "selected to be captain" and then, later, "led team to victory".
