Compared to two years ago

Hi teachers

Today I told my co-worker "Last winter was mild cold compared to two years ago" and thought to myself 'Is it grammatical to say compared to two years?'

Since compared to is a phrasal preposition, only nouns and gerunds can follow it - I think.

So, please native teachers tell me the sentences below is whether grammatical or not.

1. Last winter was mild cold compared to two years ago.

2. I have studied English since two years ago.

As always, thank you so much.

' Yes (except "cold" is unidiomatic there). I see your problem, but English is flexible enough to accommodate that. By the way, you might as well learn the difference between "compared to" and "compared with" while you're at it.
