Hi,

is commonest used anywhere in english grammar? can you please correct me with this sentence,

Hysterectomy is the commonest problem now a days.

I prefer using "most common".

Once, when talking to non-native speakers, I used a phrase containing the words "commonest problem". After my talk, a couple of students asked me to explain what I meant about "communist" problem.

Yes, you can say that.

But as Canadian45 said above, the word "nowadays" is not used much anymore.

I recommend you say (or write)

Hysterectomy is one of the most common surgeries performed today.

-or-

Hysterectomy is one of the most common surgeries. ("today" is implicit)
