common way to tell a story?

Hi,

Are this verb sequencing common as a form of story telling? I just underlined the main parts that confused me and I think they don't necessary fit a patten of sequencing.

He has his arms and feet tied to a chair and he is left to eat the years. When help came, he said he forgives everyone.
