Common vs standard

She recommended me to replace the technical jargons with common/standard terms. Any difference between common and standard? Which is better in the above sentence? Thank you.

She recommended that I replace the technical jargon with ... "common terms" and "standard terms" both sort of work, but for me do not quite make the desired contrast in the best way. Perhaps you could say "plain English".

Maybe layman's terms (terms that a layperson can understand).
