Common noun Proper noun

If you were listing names of a different types of animals in a group like snakes. Would each type of snake be a common noun (thus not capitalized) or a Proper noun (thus capitalized)

So would it be- Gartner snake, Boa Constrictor, Python etc...
or gartner snake, boa constrictor, python etc...

There is no need to capitalise them, though you will find some websites whose authors prefer to do so.
