Common mistakes

I need corrections on these common mistakes people do

1. Kindly revert back - This is one of the common sentence people usually use to mean reply.

2. Do the needful - I am seeing this sentence from my childhood, not sure if it is correct

3. Disscussing about - I dont think "about" is required here

4. Do one thing - people use this while conversations. This sentence appears like word to word translation of local language into english, do not know if it is correct.

Hi Svenkatk, I came here pretty late but thought giving my opinion on this: 1. This could be "Kindly reply" 2. This could simply be "Do the necessary" (practically, this sentence would change meaning, impact and effect on the basis of the situation and the context this is used.

  • 3.
  • This could be "Discussing on" though I feel "about" too could go as you know english has many "localized" influences and this fact makes English an International language 4.

Hello, jenny - and welcome to English Forums. We are happy to have you answer posts, but please do not include advertising links in your posts.

And hello, Svenkatk.

1. Kindly revert back -- 'Back' is redundant, since 'revert' means 'go back'. As a comment in a business letter, it is meaningless in AmE and BrE. Jenny's 'Kindly reply' is probably what is meant.
