Strange and confusing:
- it could mean that (all) people share a common mind/spirit (a debatable concept at a minimum ...)
- it could mean that (all) people have an ordinary mind (i.e. not too intelligent or original, again debatable)

About the 'ways', does it HAVE TO BE plural?
No, I just prefer it, because it seems to make the statement a little less precise. It recognizes more that we don't all think the same way.
