Commit same

Hi

One guy was arrested. The police officer said to him:

You're under arrest for obstruction of justice, false imprisonment, war crimes, covering up a drug ring, conspiracy to commit same and for using government property to blow up a civilian car in a public place resulting in reckless endangerment.

What does he mean by "conspiracy to commit same"?

Top answer

He's under arrest for allegedly doing these things and also for conspiring (planning or collaborating) to do them as well. It's not exactly clear if the conspiracy charge applies only in connection with the "covering up" of the drug ring (rather than all of the preceding charges). This is a standard shorthand found in report language.

  • He's under arrest for allegedly doing these things and also for conspiring (planning or collaborating) to do them as well.
  • It's not exactly clear if the conspiracy charge applies only in connection with the "covering up" of the drug ring (rather than all of the preceding charges).

  • Cops are very careful with their terminology.

Hi

So he would be accused of both doing these things and conspiring to do them?

Exactly. Separate statutes; separate charges.
