commission?

Sometimes I say I have a commission yet some people ask me what kind of commission I have. I guess they must be confused which I mean. I checked the dictionary. It overwhelmed me.

I work on painting or drawing for people who want to pay me. so it means, I have a commission or I am on commission. I am confused. Anyone helps me. I would appreciate it.

I got it. But if I say, "I have a commission.", I might be asked what kind of commission. How can I explain it?

Hi,

If you say 'I have a commission' to people who know you are an artist, they will understand.

If you say it to other people, you should first explain that you are an artist.
