Commentator said this, seem correct to you?

Is there grammar problem?

  1. His shooting percentage could be as much a reflection of the whole team's half court defense and him not getting open and the ball being in his hands down the stretch as it is about his decision making. It's not all his fault.
thanks very much

The sentence is correct, albeit a bit strung out. Comentators often ad lib sentences they probably wouldn't write. " Others probably consider that too formal for sports talk.

Additionally, you could use the possessive with the gerunds:

"his not being open and the ball's being in his hands etc."

Others probably consider that too formal for sports talk.
