Commencement/graduation ceremony?

Which one of these's used more often?

I seem to hear commencement more often, though.

Or it's just that the former's more formal than the latter?

So the term graduation ceremony really does exist and is in use?

Hi,

Yes.

There are also other terms used in some cases, eg degree ceremony, degree day.
