commas with phrases

Looking for help, the man fell on his knees to beg.

I understand that this particple phrase needs a comma as it is is an introdctory phrase.

1) However, if it were to come after the clause, does it need to have a comma?

2) What determines if it needs a comma when it follows a clause?

3) Is it just whether it is essential or non essential?

The man fell on his knees to beg, looking for help

Or comma omitted

The man fell on his knees to beg looking for help.

4) Fnally, when are onto and into separated to become on to and in to?

Thanks.
