Commas to separate?

Hi,

I've been recently confused as to whether it is appropriate to use commas in this sentence form:

Thanks for your answer, Micawber.

Just to clarify, is this because "neither of them were pleasant" is a main clause?

The rule I'm looking at says to separate main clauses linked by a coordinating conjunction with a comma. So this would make sense Emotion: smile
