commas or semicolons?

This sentence is really long and currently I am only breaking it up using commas. I am wondering if the punctuation in this sentence is correct:

My recent trip to Japan allowed me to personally experience highlights of the culture. Our itinerary included seeing many beautiful shrines, temples, and castles, trying new foods, soaking in an onsen, and attending a kimono fashion show and sumo match.

Hi, That's how I would rewrite it: My recent trip to Japan was a golden opportunity for me to personally experience highlights of the culture. Our itinerary included visiting many beautiful shrines, temples, and castles. We also enjoyed trying new foods, soaking in an onsen ???
