Commas dear goodness I need help.

Question

Hey everyone,I am a college student at Jacksonville State University in Alabama ,and I have no clue how to use commas. I am kind of learning but I am struggling. Yes, I know many will be surprised that a student made it through Alabama's school system without knowing how to use commas ,but I did . I just mainly need someone on here to help me learn how to use them ,or recommed a good site with examples of how to use them. I am in desperate shape, and I might fail English this time if I can not learn. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thank you,AlexP.S. If you are currently taking an English class you should have at your disposal a professor, a textbook, classmates, and tutors. Some colleges and universities even have writing centers where students can have their papers proofread before turning them in for a grade. The next time you have to write a paper, get a rough draft done ASAP and have the professor go over your punctuation. Have your professor explain all of the corrections she makes. Read the relevant sections of your textbook. If you have trouble with certain rules, ask about the rules.

For one thing, there's no space before a comma. It follows the word immediately.

Surely they will answer your questions and help you learn the things with which you have difficulty. That is why you are paying their salaries. How are you expected to learn if there is no feedback between teacher and student? If they do not have time to revise, then ask solely about punctuation. Or find out where you can have your papers proofread. There must be some way for you to access that type of service. Check with a counselor or even the university website.

No, nobody is wondering any such thing. We have a pretty good idea about what students learn and don't learn in America's myriad schools systems. Even in states at the top of the "good public educated provided" list fail to teach tings like punctuation use and grammar.

The first thing to learn is that the space comes after* the comma, not *before.

You also need to learn how and where to use the sentence-ending period, dashes, semi-colons, colons, etc.

Such as "Don't feed the trolls"?

Even though the world knows that these areas are susceptible to this sort of thing, there apparently are no warning systems in place to attempt to mitigate a disaster like this even for those areas literally a 1000 km away, a distance that puts the inundation, I think, a couple of hours from the original seismic event. It is simply unconscionable that I could find out here in America about this threat before people who are actually at grave risk could.

Commas, or most other punctuation marks, are just means to help one say exactly what he wants, exactly the way he chooses to. Of course, if you are at school you are almost by definition under the stupid dictatorship of paint-by-the-numbers ignoramuses. Meaning that you'll have to read one of their moronic do/don't guides and follow their relatively simple rules. Carved in stone, mind you, until you get the grades and graduate. Once that is done, ***** the schoolmarms and their rules. How the **** are they supposed to know exactly what you want to convey and where exactly you want to put pauses or optical separators?
