Commas around "ironically" in this sentence?

Cyber-bullying is facilitated by social media sites – which, despite being invented to bring us closer together, may ironically be a key culprit behind driving us apart."

Would you put commas around "ironically" in the above sentence, or would you omit them to avoid overkill?

I though it was standard to set off adverbs like "ironically" with a comma? Or at least when they start a sentence.

"Technically, I believe he is correct."

"The book was, unfortunately, a bit of a slog."

Doesn't "ironically" in my example fit the same criteria?

The commas are usually unnecessary. Current style is to minimize them. They could be omitted from all of your sentence without confusion or loss of meaning.
