a few days ago I started using a plugin to help me with my terrible spelling.
I have a simple sentence:
Thank you Kevin for reporting this.
and the plugin insists that the correct version is:
Thank you, Kevin, for reporting this.
I can not help myself to fell that this looks weird. Can you please advice me if this is really the only correct use of commas in this sentence?
I agree with your plugin. "Kevin" is incidental to the main sentence, which is "Thank you for reporting this", and should be set off with commas. Consider this: "Thank you for reporting this, Kevin" (thanking Kevin for reporting something).
